Las Vegas Casino History Guide

There is no doubt that at least once each person heard about the center of the world gambling industry - Las Vegas. The place was established many years ago in the Nevada state, and we offer you the short guide to the Las Vegas casino history and the origination of gambling there.

Las Vegas Casinos

The Las Vegas itself (as a city) was founded in 1905. The city and the state laws were very profitable for its citizens, and from the first days of the city existence, Las Vegas was overflowed with saloons and gambling halls, where card games predominated.

1909 - the local authorities decided to prohibit gambling activities in the city, because of the frequent shootouts and sprees. These tries didn't let to the positive results, as the gambling activities became clandestine. The game halls owners became the managers of closed gambling establishments.

1911 - some of the card casino games were allowed to play again, and in 1915 slots games (one-handed bandits) were added to that list. At first slot machines presented the winners some things, instead of money: alcoholic drinks, cigars of even chewing gums (read slots history to get more detailed information).

1931 - the gambling business was permitted in Las Vegas and the special rules of it pursuit were established. It was the great opportunity for the local bodies of power to collect higher taxes for public schools support.

From this time the Las Vegas city rampant development period started. The industrialist began building of the hotels offering its guests gambling entertainment.

1932 - the first gambling establishment "The Meadows Super Club" was opened. It was rated at rich visitors, but very quickly gained the success among common gamblers.

1946 (December) - the 1st casino was established on Los Angeles highway outside the Las Vegas City limits. It was called Flamingo Casino. The first gambling establishments were settled in small hotels. The first casinos in Las Vegas were:
